The course has 3 elements. It will include:

- You’ll learn about the machine parts and the up keep of the machine

- How to wind the bobbin, thread the machine correctly and adjust the tension.
- How to sew basic stitches, make an open seam, a closed seam
- How to finish raw edges
- How to sew edge stitch and top stitch
- How to sew curves and corners.
- How to make and attach a facing
- How to use fusing and interfacing.
- How to sew a simple dart and a contour dart.
- How to Insert a concealed zip and a lapped zip.
- How to sew gathers and frills
- How to make an elasticated casing
- How to make a turned hem and an invisible hem and a pin hem.
- How to make a machined buttonhole.

Trouser Making Skills
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
You will be provided with a ready cut calico trouser and proceed to construct the trouser with the guidance of the tutor.
The course includes:
- Basic use of over-locker to finish seams.
- Sew leg and crotch seams
- Sew a fly zip fastener
- Create pleats
- Sew a jet pocket
- Sew hip pockets and back pockets flaps
- Make and attach a waistband with bound edge and belt loops.
- Make turn up hem
- Make a button hole and attach a button
- Pressing and finishing

Professional Pattern Cutting for Skirts
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
We will first introduce you to pattern making jargon, terminology, equipment and methods.
Then the course will include:
- Working from a set of measurements- either your own or a standard size – you will draft a skirt block.
- Construct the block in calico and fit to body.
- Transfer adjustments to the block and trace onto card to create your own personal block.
- Adding flare
- Dart manipulation
- Turning darts into seams.
- Creating Skirt Styles – Panel Skirt, A line Skirt, Pencil Skirt with a vent, Circle and half circle skirt
- Pleats, Gathers, Frills and Flounces
- Pockets
- Yokes
- Drafting a waist facing and waistbands
- Pattern Draft – Draft a full scale pattern for a Skirt of your own design to include seam allowances, annotations and all pattern markings
Professional Pattern Cutting for Tops, Dresses and Sleeves
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
- Working from a set of measurements- either your own or a standard size – you will draft a bodice block and a sleeve block.
- Construct the block in calico and fit to body. Transfer adjustments to the block and trace onto card
- Darts and dart manipulation- Moving darts and removing darts
- Turning darts into seams
- Wing seam, Princess line seam, Empire line seam.
- Yokes
- Adding fullness, gathers etc.
- Button wrap
- Necklines,
- Armholes,
- Facings
- Pattern Draft – Draft a full scale pattern for a Top of your own design to include seam allowances, annotations and all pattern markings.
Professional Pattern Cutting for Jackets
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Using either the Bodice block you created on the Stage 2 course or a Bodice block that we can provide, you will draft a standard size 12 Jacket Block and Sleeve from a set of instructions.
The course will include:
- Drafting a revere collar
- Drafting a facing
- Drafting a Jet pocket
- Sleeves
- Drafting a lining
